Dr Irene Zinonos

Irene has been the principal of Port Adelaide Greek school since 2018. She was born and raised in Cyprus and is a native speaker of the Greek Language. Irene has a medical research background and has recently completed her Masters degree in Teaching. She has been teaching at community language schools, including Port Adelaide Greek School, since 2007, and has been a SACE teacher since 2015. 

"This experience has been the most liberating and rewarding of my life as I love being in the classroom, creating fun and engaging learning environments for my students. More importantly, teaching the Greek language and culture has given me the opportunity to be part of a wonderful community where I have created strong and meaningful relationships with all our students and their families. I endeavour to build on the amazing work of our previous principals and teachers by continuing to positively influence our young people’s characters and install in their hearts the love and pride for our fascinating culture, language and traditions".

Tsambika is a teacher with many years experience in both mainstream and ethnic schools. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching, specialising in Modern Greek. 

I believe children are capable of many great things and I endeavour to always encourage them to achieve their very best.“


Ms Georgina Markos

Georgina Markos is a qualified teacher who has 35 years of teaching experience across a variety of country and metropolitan schools in Adelaide. She completed her Diploma of Teaching (Primary) at Underdale College of Advanced Education. She is currently teaching at West Lakes Shore R-7 School as a Year 3 class teacher. She has been teaching Kindergarten students at PAGS since 2017.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed being actively involved in the PAGS Community and working with such a dedicated and hardworking team of talented Greek teachers. My aim is to provide an exciting learning program for Kindy students which will motivate them to develop their Greek language skills and be proud of their Greek heritage throughout their life."

Antonia graduated from Port Adelaide Greek School in 2020 and is currently studying her Bachelor of Advanced Health and Medical Science at the University of Adelaide. She has worked at the school as an SSO and the principal’s assistant for 3 years.

“After spending my high school Friday nights at Port Adelaide Greek School unconsciously I developed a sense of love belonging in the Greek culture which I still live with today. My goal is to provide a program where my students can learn the Greek language as well as connect to and be proud of their Greek heritage.”

 Rita has been teaching at Port Adelaide Greek school since 2019 and has been an accredited Ethnic School Teacher for almost 23 years. She has worked in numerous Greek Schools mainly teaching across all primary school year levels.

"I am very passionate and enthusiastic about teaching the Greek language to young learners as I value the importance of teaching our young generation about our culture and traditions. My teaching philosophy is student-centred and I believe in providing students with many hands-on experiences and my goal is to make learning fun."

Mr Athanasios Morakis

Thanasis was born in Greece (Thessaloniki) and came to Australia in 2013. He is a previous student of Port Adelaide Greek School and graduated in 2018. He is currently studying his Bachelor of Human Movement and Masters of Teaching (Secondary).

 

“From the very first moment I joined Greek School at Port Adelaide, the community, students and teachers welcomed me wholeheartedly and I have really enjoyed my Friday nights there. Therefore, it is a pleasure to be able to contribute and help the next generation of Greek-Australians learn the Greek language which is vital in maintaining the Greek culture. I thoroughly enjoy seeing students develop their linguistic skills in Greek and my goal is to provide students the opportunity to learn in a way that can be maintained, allowing students to have a connection with their Greek background.”

Ms Nelly Theodoridou

Nelly was accredited as an Ethnic Schools Teacher in 2017 by completing her Accreditation Course for Teachers in Ethnic Schools, specialising in Modern Greek. She has worked in a variety of Greek schools, teaching across all the primary school levels and up to Year 10 of high school. Nelly has been teaching at Port Adelaide Greek School since 2018.


“I love working at the Port Adelaide Greek School because we all feel like we are not just a school but one big family. The lovely staff support and encourage each other which is passed on to the students. Personally, it gives me much delight and satisfaction when I see the younger generation learning the Greek language and having a relationship with their Greek culture.”


Ms Sophia Vasileiadou

Sofia received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Athens and continued with Masters in Education in the UK and then in Australia. She has been teaching Greek since 2016, since she migrated to Adelaide.

“I always knew that teaching is my passion but never imagined I would be teaching our Greek language and culture in Australia! It is a beautiful and rewarding journey and now that I am raising my own bilingual kids I can see even better the importance of Greek school for our community!”


Ms MaryAnn Iliou

Greek Dance Teacher

Mary-Ann has been a Greek dance teacher at PAGS for over 10 years and has been dancing since she was able to walk. She has performed with many dance groups over the years at festivals such as the Semaphore Greek Festival, Glendi, and the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival to name a few.

 

“Greek dancing is a huge part of my life. My mum taught dancing at the Greek School, and I’ve now followed in her footsteps. It’s amazing to see how the community of Port Adelaide continues to grow with every generation and I’m blessed to be a part of this wonderful community. It’s crazy how the circle of life works as I am now teaching children of parents that my mum taught. I love seeing the growth in the students each week. Watching the students perform after all the hard work they put in is extremely rewarding.”


Father Petros Georgiadis

Father Petros was born in Thessalonika, Greece in 1969 and is a Military Academy graduate (Σ.Μ.Υ). He served the Hellenic Army for 8 years (1985-1993). He migrated to Australia in 1993. He has worked as a factory worker for 2 years, a graphic designer and advertising guy for 10 years and as a painter for 17 years.

He is married to Euthimia Demourtzidis and has four daughters, Sophia married to Peter, Evangelia, Kleo-Athena and Iliana.

He was ordained a priest under the Holy Archdiocese of Australia in November 2022 and became the parish priest at the Nativity of Christ of the Greek Orthodox Community of Port Adelaide.

He is an integral member of our school community, he visits the school on a regular basis and provides orthodox bible studies to our students.

“The school is a happy place, it is a paradise on earth. The children are full of love, goodness and simplicity and God’s Grace is always present in their hearts. God willing, I hope to inspire them on how to create a personal relationship with God for the rest of their lives”.
